Neat math tips and tricks part 2

This is a continuation of my previous math tips and tricks #1 and will be centered more on estimations, approximations, and other useful conversions.

Approximation Methods
 - 2^10 ~ (is approximately equal to) 1,000 (One thousand)
 - 2^20 ~ 1,000,000 (One million)
 - 2^30 ~ 1,000,000,000 (One Billion)
 - 2^40 ~ 1,000,000,000,000 (One trillion)
 - 2^50 ~ 1,000,000,000,000,000 (One quadrillion)
You can probably see where this is going... For each power of 2 raised by 10, just add three zeros at the end of the number. If you ever come across measurements in powers of 2, which is unlikely but not unheard of, use these approximations to find out just how big something might be.

Converting your salary to an hourly basis (From yearly)
This is a neat trick that can help you find out how much you're really earning. Whether you are pleasantly or unhappily surprised by the results, this trick is very useful. It only works assuming you have regular hours (9:00 - 5:00) with at most one hour above or below the standard, and work for around 45 - 50 of the 52 weeks in a year.
To do this, just drop the last 3 zeros of your annual salary and divide by 2, or just divide by 2,000.
For example, if you make $50,000 a year, you would make $25.00 an hour, as 50,000 divided by 2,000 is 25. So, whether this prompts you to ask for a pay rise, or makes you very thankful for your boss, enjoy finding out how much you really make per hour.

How long it'll take you to double your investment
To find out how long it would take you do double your investment in something, say some google stock, for example, simply divide the number 72 by the projected growth rate for the year. For example, if the Google stock is projected to rise about 9% in the next year, then 72/9 would be 8, which is the amount of time in years needed to double your investment in Google in terms of money. If you are looking to triple your investment money, simply divide 115 by the number instead of 72. So, if one is looking to triple the amount of money in google stock, divide 115 by 9 and get 115/9 = 12.78 years to triple your dealings.

Stay tuned for part 3, and for now, enjoy the results of the tricks that I have provided you with today.
